A stage backdrop from Franz Schreker’s Der ferne Klang is raised during technical rehearsals at the Royal Opera in Stockholm. Removed from the moment of performance, the landscape stands in suspension, a fragment of illusion without a spectacle. Alongside it, a sound recording captures the orchestra preparing for Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker: overlapping lines, tentative gestures, fragments of rehearsal that never cohere into the ballet itself. The work delays its image: on each loop, sound leads for 46 seconds, filling the room before the scene appears. The constellation converge in a former monastery, now a cultural center in Naples.
