A stage backdrop from Franz Schreker’s Der ferne Klang is raised during technical rehearsals at the Royal Opera in Stockholm. Removed from the moment of performance, the landscape stands in suspension, a fragment of illusion without a spectacle. Alongside it, a recording captures the orchestra preparing for Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker: overlapping lines, tentative gestures, fragments of rehearsal that never cohere into the ballet itself.

These elements converge in a former monastery, now a cultural center in Naples. Within this space, shaped by overlapping histories—from monastery to cultural center—they form the prologue to a new spectacle — one built from displacement, incompletion, and the contingent construction of reality.
